Freedoom is a project aimed to create complete and free Doom and Doom II IWAD files, as Phase 1 and Phase 2, both of which contains complete replacement game media. Combined with the GPLed Doom Source (such as PrBoom or GZDoom), this makes a completely free (as in speech) game. Freedoom's data is licensed under the Modified BSD License.[1] Episode four of Phase I is the Cacoaward winning Double Impact which was donated by its creators. The project is aiming for a more direct science fiction setting to differentiate it from Doom.

Legal issues[edit]
Freedoom versions older than 0.6.4 contain plagiarized music from mods for Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, these were found under the source code and were removed with version 0.6.4 released on June 15th, 2009, making versions older than that not available on the main repository anymore. There was also debate on the legality of a font used on various textures prior to being replaced.
