VMS Empire is a war simulation between the player and the computer.

Game play
VMS Empire uses characters to represent the game world: It consists of sea (.), land (+), uncontrolled cities (*), computer-controlled cities (X), and cities that the player controls (O).

The game starts with one city per party. Cities produce pieces which can be used to expand the empire.
The Uzebox is an open source 8-bit game console design created by Belogic Software. It is based on the Atmel ATmega644 AVR general purpose microcontroller. The particularity of the system is that it has an interrupt driven kernel and no frame buffer. All functions such as video sync generation, tile rendering and music mixing are done by a background task so games can be developed easily in C/C++.

Two companies introduced commercial implementations: The Fuzebox and the Uzebox AVCore. Since then, about 50 games and demos ranging from classic arcade ports to original games were released by various developers. The Uzebox was listed in Make Magazine's definitive open source hardware projects of 2009 .

The design goal was to be as simple as possible yet have good enough sound and graphics and leave enough CPU to implement interesting games. Emphasis was put on making it easy and fun to assemble and program for any hobbyists. The final design contains only two chips: an ATmega644 and an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter.
Details
Video
The video is output on one of the 8-bit I/O port as RGB, 3 bits are allocated for the red component, 3 bits for the green and 2 bits for the blue. Those are fed to a DAC composed of three R-2R resistor ladders which in turn feeds an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter from Analog Devices. This gives 256 fixed but simultaneous colors on screen.

The latest video engine boasts 9 video modes that supports bitmapped and sprites-based modes as well a SD card streaming mode that allows the playback of movies. The highest usable resolution attainable on the console is 360x224.

Sound
The sound subsystem is composed of 3 wavetable oscillators channels, one LFSR-based noise channel and a PCM channel (to play samples). Each have independent timbre, frequency and volume. Resolution is 8-bit and is mixed at NTSC line rate (~15Khz) and is output on a single pin via pulse width modulation (PWM). A hi-level engine can play specially formatted MIDI files. The engine also support the concept of "patch streams" for music instruments and sound fx. Similar to a MIDI stream of notes, but instead the stream is composed of sound changing parameters.

Input
The joypad input uses a standard SNES controller interface. An optional MIDI In interface and driver allows to compose music from any sequencer.

Implementations
Since its inception, the Uzebox design has been commercially implemented as:
* The Fuzebox, a Do-It-Yourself kit
* The Uzebox AVCore, a fully assembled unit
* The Uzebox EX1, a Do-It-Yourself kit
* The EUzebox, a Do-It-Yourself kit with SCART output for the European market

Tools
All developement is done in AVR Studio, an IDE developed by Atmel. Besides being free and easy to use, it includes a cycle-perfect software simulator for all AVR devices. By adding the free WinAVR GCC package, C development is possible on the AVR platform.

A set of tools developed in C and Java help generate content for the game. There is a converter to transform raw images to tiles and maps, a MIDI file converter and a patch/fx editor. Uzem, a fully functional emulator was created to ease development. It supports sound, all graphics modes, integrates a GDB (GNU debugger) server and support the SD card interface and PC joysticks.

Copyleft is (obviously and as a typical example of hacker humor) a pun on the word copyright. It is a legal instrument based on copyright that makes sure the copylefted material stays in the commons, available for the general public and cannot be appropriated by private interests. One could say it's like public domain but with an insurance. However, unlike public domain, copylefted material remains under copyright and derivative versions can only be made if they are similarly licensed. This means no additional restrictions can be placed on the material. Not following these rules constitutes a copyright infringement.

Copyleft was designed and developed by Richard Stallman and the Free Software Foundation in the 1980s. The first popular license to embed copyleft was the GNU GPL 1.0 in 1989.

A similar construct can be seen in the Creative Commons Share Alike licensing provision.
Should I delete Unknown Horizons for deletion? Thoughts?--Kiba 19:03, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
: Maybe we should implement a template that would expand into infobox "This game, while mostly free, ships with some non-free files. Shame on you, developers". This way we could keep articles like this one, while still stressing that libregamewiki does not encourage putting proprietary stuff into otherwise free games. ::No, we don't encourage proprietary games to be submitted to libregamewiki. Any games with proprietary content should be deleted, but I have my reservation about this license.--Kiba 23:28, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
::: There's possibly more then just 4 CC Sampling Plus files; indeed the issue is registered as a major bug in their issue tracker. I think we should encourage fixing these kind of bugs. Also, the files in question where added only after the first release (e.g. , , etc), so technically we can still have an article about the first few releases (may I note how unhappy I am for resorting to wikilawyering?). :::: Very well, I'll let the article stay for the moment.--Kiba 22:38, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
::::: We have deleted all the non-free content now—therefore UH is now 100% DFSG compatible. --AndreR <small>(Unknown Horizons team)</small> 01:05, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Knights is a multiplayer game in which knights solve quests in dungeons.

Game play
In a Knights game, the player must solve a quest such as escaping a dungeon or bringing an item back to the starting point. This may involve killing opponents who already got those items. There are weapons, potions and magical spells.
One is enough is an arcade game written by Olli Etuaho in Python using the Pygame library as a warmup for pyweek 4. It is licensed under GPLv2. The latest version of the game is Alpha 0.40 released in 2007.

Gameplay
The land of ball’s economics are in such a state that among the capitalist balls, only one communist ball is left.

The ball has to try and convert the capitalist balls into communist balls, and send them into labor camps. Conversion consumes energy, and sending balls into a camp helps regeneration.

More and more capitalists are issued by the bank to stop you; the converted balls not yet sent into a camp help you.

Availability
The game appears to run everywhere Python does.

Binary packages are available at least for:
* Debian lenny/sid (official repository, version 0.40-1; maintained by Debian Games Team, uploaded by Richard Hartmann)

'Rejected games list is a list of games which were rejected to have articles in the Libregamewiki for not complying with the article policy, but for which it is likely that somebody will try to add them or do time-consuming research about their freeness (or there is a significant hope of liberation, e.g. it is apparently non-free only because it has been derived from a then-non-free work).

Note that the licenses of a game can change, and that a game may be put here erroneously, so being on this list does not mean the game is rejected forever: if you think a listed game actually is free, you can start a discussion on the talk page.
Rigs of Rods (RoR) is a 3D vehicle simulator licensed under the GPLv3.
What makes Rigs of Rods different to most simulators is its unique soft-body physics: vehicles, machines, objects, etc. are simulated in real-time as flexible soft-body objects, giving the simulation an extremely accurate behaviour which entirely depends on the physical construction of the vehicles or objects you create.

Features
* Soft-body physics. Objects according to their weight distribution, construction, and/or suspension (in the case of vehicles).
* Advanced flight model based on blade element theory. It allows the accurate simulation of any airplane, based entirely on its physical dimensions and wing airfoils, similar to X-Plane.
* Accurate buoyancy model based on elemental pressure gradients, enabling boats with complex hulls to move realistically in the swell.
* Scripting support using AngelScript.
* Based on the OGRE Graphics Engine
Arkhart is a role-playing game engine. It's goal is to provide game designers with the tools necessary to create role-playing games. The game arkhart is developed by the Nekeme Prod. association. Unfortunately the project is at a halt, and EdB is the only active maintainer. Fresh coders are needed. The art (textures,3D,music) is great.
