he benefactor system, also known as micropatronage, is a business model for free content, be it software or artwork, in which an author is supported and directly funded by the fanbase. The most profilic uses of the benefactor system in the free gaming community is by Jason Rohrer.

Like the Ransom model, this direct-investment model differs from most commercial models where investors will pay for the development a game and make money from sales. Instead, consumers invest directly in the production in the game they want to see completed or improved upon based on the makers' reputation. However, unlike the ransom business model, in which developers release the game once a certain amount of money has been pledged, the benefactor system relies on a group of donors to fund game development continuously. This allows developers to develop games indefinitely rather than hold one time sales for every game project.

History
The first known discussion of this business model in relation to free gaming is by Jason Rohrer in his essay Free Distribution in 2004. Although at the time, he did not produce any video games and the essay is not necessary only related to only game productions. However he would eventually use the business model for all of his future game development projects.

he selling of space for advertisement in a game is one means of generating income that can be done by free software games. It is most typically done with web-based games, by selling a small segment of screen space around the game's interface. It could also be done through server-side games, wherein advertisements are actively placed within the game environment as wall textures or billboards. It could even be done client-side, although the free nature of the code would probably lead to the release of advertisement free forks. This system of revenue generation has been recommended by Charles Goodwin of Free Gamer, in comparison to asking for donations or offering premium content.
Tangomon is an educational monster-battling game, similar in concept to the popular Pokemon series but with an educational twist.

The player starts with one "Tangomon" and three "Tangojis". Tangomon are monsters which exist in the world of the game. Tangojis are used to command the player's Tangomon to attack and defend; they are terms the player wants to learn, e.g. vocabulary words. When the player feels they have learned a given Tangoji sufficiently, it can be converted into a "Tangokan", which can be used to capture defeated enemy Tangomon.

The game does not have an ending. Instead, the goal of the game is to collect all Tangomon, and the player can then reset the game state and start over again from the beginning while keeping the same set of Tangojis and Tangokans.
