he selling of space for advertisement in a game is one means of generating income that can be done by free software games. It is most typically done with web-based games, by selling a small segment of screen space around the game's interface. It could also be done through server-side games, wherein advertisements are actively placed within the game environment as wall textures or billboards. It could even be done client-side, although the free nature of the code would probably lead to the release of advertisement free forks. This system of revenue generation has been recommended by Charles Goodwin of Free Gamer, in comparison to asking for donations or offering premium content.
Fight or Perish is a dungeon crawler game inspired by the Atari 8-bit game Dandy, better known as the inspiration for Gauntlet, created by New Breed Software. The game is intended to support four players that explore dungeons while avoiding creeping enemies.

Bombs can be used to destroy enemies, doors need keys to be unlocked and food and treasure can be collected. There are supposed to be four different characters in the game, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

he benefactor system, also known as micropatronage, is a business model for free content, be it software or artwork, in which an author is supported and directly funded by the fanbase. The most profilic uses of the benefactor system in the free gaming community is by Jason Rohrer.

Like the Ransom model, this direct-investment model differs from most commercial models where investors will pay for the development a game and make money from sales. Instead, consumers invest directly in the production in the game they want to see completed or improved upon based on the makers' reputation. However, unlike the ransom business model, in which developers release the game once a certain amount of money has been pledged, the benefactor system relies on a group of donors to fund game development continuously. This allows developers to develop games indefinitely rather than hold one time sales for every game project.

History
The first known discussion of this business model in relation to free gaming is by Jason Rohrer in his essay Free Distribution in 2004. Although at the time, he did not produce any video games and the essay is not necessary only related to only game productions. However he would eventually use the business model for all of his future game development projects.

Mad Bomber
A remake of the 1981 Atari 2600 video game Kaboom!. The game features up to two players trying to stop a crook from dropping bombs by catching them in barrels of water. The game has been ported to Microsoft Windows from Linux. The game is included on the SuperGamer live-DVD as well as on disks put out by Retro Gaming Magazine and PC Magazine. In August 2007, Mad Bomber was one of first the games included in 'Red', a touchscreen-and-controller based in-flight entertainment system found in Virgin America planes. ===Teeter Torture===

Sphere is an open source integrated development environment designed to create 16-bit SNES/Genesis style role-playing games, such as Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star, Legend of Zelda, Star Ocean, etc.

It uses a cross-platform environment, working for both Windows and Linux.

Sphere was originally created by Chad Austin. When making a game with Sphere, most things are scripted using the JavaScript language (though very early versions used its own Spherescript language) with special functions and objects for maps, spritesets, images and other resources.

Though Sphere was designed to make RPGs, because of the flexibility of a scripting language it can be used to make almost any other type of game.

Recent versions of Sphere also support basic 3D graphics functions using the OpenGL video driver. However, it is more complicated to use than the 2D graphics functions and is still in early stages.

Sphere is released under the GNU GPL.
