Pentobi is a Blokus‐playing program. Blokus is an abstract tile-placement board game with tiles shaped like polyominoes and simple rules. In addition to the classic version of Blokus, Pentobi also supports a number of game variants and similar games: Blokus Duo, Blokus Trigon, Blokus Junior, Nexos, GembloQ and Callisto.

Pentobi officially supports Linux and Android. The Android version does not support the highest playing levels. By completing missions and looting dead enemies, the player will collect gold. This can be used to purchase new equipment, weapons and armour at different traders.
Gameplay
The player moves in turns in a dungeon, finding items and killing monsters to retrieve the fabled amulet of Yendor.

Nethack has a high replay value as every game is unique; essentially every level is randomly generated, items and treasure are randomly placed with unique and functional descriptions, and monsters are generated continually and randomly. There are thirteen different roles, 5 different races, and 3 different alignments.
Nethack is extremely difficult, nearly impossible. The vast majority of its players have never beaten the game.
History
See release history for more details.

Variants
The most popular variant of Nethack is SLASH'EM (Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack - Extended Magic). It features many new monsters, roles, races, items, levels, etc. It is also considered much more difficult than the original Nethack.

Another popular variant is the graphical Falcon's Eye. It is mostly the same as the original, except it uses isometric graphics, instead of ASCII.
Widelands is a real-time strategy game. It uses the Simple DirectMedia Layer and is written in the C++ programming language. The source code and media are licensed under the GNU General Public License. Widelands has single-player campaigns as well as multi-player. It supports online play via their own meta-server as well as LAN and direct IP connection.

The latest release of Widelands is Build20 released on May 2nd, 2019.

The game is available in more than twenty languages.

Gameplay
Widelands was heavily inspired by Settlers II, but has surpassed it in terms of variety and complexity, whilst remaining rather intuitive.

The player is effectively a regent of a small clan of settlers, which start out only with a headquarters with resources. The object of Widelands is to build the economic infrastructure, and manage the construction of roads in order to expand the settlement and go to war.

The economic network is big and complex, and varies slightly in the different playable tribes in the game. The economy network of each tribe may be downloaded from the Widelands Encyclopaedia.

One of the most important aspects of Widelands is the road system. A well optimized road system keeps goods moving, which means people can train and equip troops faster.

Some resources in Widelands are renewable, but require specific workers (such as rangers or foresters) to ensure that these resources don't disappear. However, some resources are of limited quantity. Once they're used up, they're gone forever.

Expansion of territory is done by the construction of military buildings and filling them with soldiers. The bigger the military building is, the more territory it will control. It is also possible to conquer enemy territory by sending soldiers into enemy military buildings to fight.

Tribes
Currently, there are four tribes that players can play as. (The developers plan on making this extensible, so that players may create their own tribes.) They are Barbarians, the Empire, the Atlanteans, and the Frisians.
*Barbarians: A tribe that is located in the north. They are master users of axes. For this reason they have the fastest lumberjacks in the game. They are not dangerous as long as you don't interfere with their affair. They are simplistic and practical in the sense that they do not make beautiful, but useful wares.
*Empire: An empire located in the Gulf of Perl. Their empire is built on the foundation of great inventions. They also believe that their rulers are Gods. However, they are experiencing internal conflicts as the emperor's sons fight amongst themselves to be the successor.
*Atlanteans: The most advanced tribe in the entire game. Even their buildings requires special materials and knowledge to construct. They sure are useful though.
*Frisians: The youngest tribe, aimed at advanced players.

Development
The development team of Widelands consists of many members from different countries.

The game uses Lua as a scripting language in multiple places, for example scenario setup, win conditions and campaign mechanics.
History
The project started off as a puzzle game as Teepop, a clone of the Japanese game puyo puyo. It was released on August 2nd, 2004.

Eventually, the game evolve into Teewars in 2007. The gameplay were similiar to Teeworld but have deathmatch as its only game mode.

Version 0.2.0 was the first public release for the Teeworld project.

They changed their name from Teewars to Teeworlds in version 0.4.0 for legal reason they can't divulge. This name change event happened on March 23th, 2008..

See Teeworlds release history for a details of all the known releases made by the team.

Receptions
TiGdb gave the game 3.9 out of 5 stars based on 12 ratings as of October 21st, 2009.

Licensing
Versions before 0.5.0 were distributed under a potentially non-free license which limited commercial distribution: “4.

Older versions of Pentobi also supported Windows, but Windows support has been dropped after version 12.0.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (often shortened to Dungeon Crawl, Crawl, or DCSS) is a roguelike dungeon crawler Role-playing game. It is written in the C++ programming language, and is licensed under the GPL Version 2+. Stone Soup is a successor to the game Linley's Dungeon Crawl (also frequently shortened to Dungeon Crawl) by Linley Henzell, which was developed in the 1990's. After Henzell stopped developing Dungeon Crawl in 1999, a group of contributors kept the game alive until, in 2006, the Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup project began. The game is available in both graphical tile and ASCII versions and does not require 3D hardware acceleration. The graphical tiles are largely released as CC0 (public domain), but some are unclearly licensed and so it is possible that only the ASCII version of the game is completely libre.

In Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup the player must delve deep into a dangerous, monster-infested dungeon on a quest to retrieve the fabled Orb of Zot, then return with it to the surface. In order to get to the Orb, the player must first collect a series of magical runes hidden throughout the various branches of the dungeon, all while encountering traps, finding magical and/or cursed items, and battling many enemies. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has a great many race and class combinations to play, and numerous gods to worship, all of which will drastically affect playstyle and game outcome. A lively player community exists around the game. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup can be played both offline and online in a web browser, and there are frequent competitive tournaments.

Gameplay
At the beginning of a new game of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, the player chooses a race and class combination to play as. Unlike many other roguelikes, race has a much more drastic effect on playstyle than class, which only determines starting stats and equipment. The player must then venture through the mostly randomly-generated corridors of the dungeon while leveling up and collecting items. There are various enemies to fight, including dangerous unique enemies that have names and special abilities. One of the core mechanics in Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is the god worshiping system. Players can choose one of several gods to become disciples of. These gods will give the player access to special rewards and abilities, but will also make demands of the player and sometimes forbid certain actions. The god that the player chooses to worship has a huge impact on the way they will play the game and how they will have to strategize to survive in the dungeon.

As the player gets deeper in the dungeon, eventually they begin to explore the various branches, some of which have runes at the end. Upon collecting at least three of these runes, the player can gain access to the Realm of Zot, which contains the goal item of the game, the Orb of Zot. Once the player has collected the Orb, they must then fight their way back out of the dungeon (a section of the game called the "Ascension") and reach the surface in order to win. There are also several other game modes available to players of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, including Dungeon Sprint, Zot Defense (removed in 0.16), and The Arena. It is also possible to play online and to spectate other online players. While playing online, high scores can be tracked automatically, play sessions can be recorded, and ghosts of other player's characters can be encountered.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup places great emphasis on game balance. Much effort has been made by the designers to discourage the practice of "save-scumming" and other grinding behaviors. The development team follows a philosophy of user-friendliness and emphasis on meaningful decision-making, originally specified by David Ploog, that is outlined in the game's manual.

History
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a continuation of the original Linley's Dungeon Crawl, which was developed by Linley Henzell in the mid-to-late 1990's. In 1999, Henzell stepped away from the project, and development continued for a while under a group of other programmers. Brent Ross emerged as the maintainer of the Dungeon Crawl project, and the game was updated several times in the 2000's. After the release of Dungeon Crawl version 4.0 beta 26, however, development slowed down. Another version, called version 4.1, was eventually released in 2005, but work on the game soon stalled almost completely and the maintainer ceased to be actively involved in the project. Additionally, version 4.1 of Dungeon Crawl suffered from major balancing issues which caused it to be almost unplayably difficult.

It was around this time that two developers, Darshan Shaligram and Erik Piper, began private efforts to rekindle progress on Dungeon Crawl. Shaligram, who was the author of the popular "Travel Patch" for Dungeon Crawl, first worked on fixing the balancing problems in the 4.1 codebase, with help from Piper, who was a very skilled player of Dungeon Crawl. This strategy proved difficult, however, because of the challenging and complicated nature of version 4.1. At about this point, Martin Read, another Dungeon Crawl player, suggested on the rec.games.roguelike.misc newsgroup (which was the main hub for discussion of Dungeon Crawl during this period) that it might be a better plan to start with the 4.0 beta 26 codebase and slowly add parts from 4.1. Shaligram and Piper took this advice, and, calling their new project Stone Soup (a name chosen by Piper), began work on their new version of Dungeon Crawl in the summer of 2006. Within a few months, there was enough development work on Stone Soup to warrant a first release. Shaligram and Piper teamed up with Nat Lanza and Peter Berger, the creators of the crawl-ref SourceForge project (which was another, earlier attempt to revive development on Crawl), and, in September 2006, version 0.1 of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup was made available to the public. Other developers quickly joined to help out with the project, and Marc Thoben started the crawl.develz.org (CDO) development server, where players could test out upcoming features.

Since its initial release, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has built up a strong following of both players and developers. It was voted best roguelike game in 2008 by ASCII Dreams, beating out Dwarf Fortress, NetHack, and other famous games. The game was relicensed from the original "Crawl Public License" (which is almost identical to the NetHack License) to the GNU GPL version 2+.

Development
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has a very open development model. There are over 40 people mentioned in the game's credits as being part of the development team, and over 250 contributors to the game in total. The developers communicate and decide what to implement mostly on the official Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup IRC channel, but they also make decisions by contributing design documents to the development wiki and discussing changes on mailing lists. The very open and community-oriented development model of Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup has been highlighted as one of its key strengths.
How do we make it easier for potential contributors to help?
How can we make it easier for potential contributors to help? Since the beginning of October account creation works without red tape again. This is a great step forward. Is there anything we can do to further improve the articles explaining how to contribute?
:Well, for once, we might want to fix the following explanation, which I see whenever I try to create a new page, hours after creating my account: "If you just created a new account, please wait a couple of minutes". :)
:[Edit: now I can create the page fine. Thank you.]

Main Page
I think it may be a good idea to have a little paragraph at the top of the main page which explains what LibreGameWiki is.
:The front page links to Libregamewiki which is currently outdated, the main page could have a summary with more detail on that page. Kymara (talk) 12:31, 6 October 2012 (CEST)
Shall we have a small "How to contribute?" or "Help wanted" section on the main page which links to the relevant articles? What would it look like?
:Yes. It should link to an updated Libregamewiki:Article_policy and List of games Kymara (talk) 12:31, 6 October 2012 (CEST)
: There could also be a portal for this in the side bar. Kymara (talk) 12:47, 6 October 2012 (CEST)

Which article should be featured next?
There is quite a number of very good articles. I think we should change the featured article on the main page more frequently to draw attention to them.

:Yes, I already asked a recent productive user, GNUbie for his thoughts for the next one. Generally, we should ask the wider community to help choose somehow. Kymara (talk) 12:32, 6 October 2012 (CEST)
Engines for non-free games with no free games using them
Hi. Should free remakes of engines for non-free games be accepted as free engines, if they have never been (and not necessarily intended to be) used for a playable free game yet? Examples: OpenMW, Enemy Territory: Legacy. --AVRS (talk) 12:35, 28 November 2012 (CET)
:My two pence: I'd class those as free engines. Their use case is irrelevant, and it could be considered as a matter of timing, for example: a free engine which was created and then later used for a non-free game doesn't make the engine non-free.Kymara (talk) 12:46, 28 November 2012 (CET)
Game articles redirecting to genre list
I'm seeing odd behavior. If I try to go to the following articles:

* https://libregamewiki.org/Freedroid_RPG
* https://libregamewiki.org/PARPG

I get redirected to the RPG genre page:

https://libregamewiki.org/Role-playing_games

If I use non-rewrite links, however, they seem to work.

* https://libregamewiki.org/index.php?title=Freedroid_RPG
* https://libregamewiki.org/index.php?title=PARPG

Could there perhaps be an error in the URL rewriting rules?
License Choice
The CC-BY is a non-copyleft license, and unless I'm mistaken, the GFDL is a copyleft license, which is why CC-BY-SA was chosen for Wikipedia when it dual-licensed to make it compatible with other CC sites. If I'm correct, this wiki is currently under two licenses which contradict each other on the question of copyleft, which is confusing. Why wasn't the CC-BY-SA license chosen for LGW? This would allow relevant to content to be imported from and exported to Wikipedia and other CC-BY-SA sites (with appropriate attribution of course). --Strypey (talk) 08:04, 11 January 2014 (CET)

: The CC-BY was chosen to make it easy for third parties to use content from LibreGameWiki. The GFDL was considered non-free by Debian and Debian is quite an authority as the Open Source Definition is based on Debian guidelines. It was kept as alternative to make it easy to copy content from LibreGameWiki to Wikipedia. Wikipedia and the FSF later pulled a stunt of releasing a new version of the GFDL with the Lex Wikipedia clause, allowing Wikipedia to move to a completely different license. LGW content, however, was licensed as GFDL 1.2 without the backdoor "or later". And personally, after this stunt, I don't think "or later" is a good idea at all. --Gamfan (talk) 08:16, 11 January 2014 (CET)

:: For the record, the change to the GFDL was made to allow Wikipedia (and other multi-collaborator works) to dual-license with CC-BY-SA, which is identical to the GFDL where it counts (eg attribution, copyleft), although it happens to lacks the "invariant sections" and "transparency" terms that made Debian declare the GFDL non-free. Both CC-BY and CC-BY-SA are free culture licenses: http://creativecommons.org/freeworks Practically speaking, the purpose of having a wiki under a license is to inform the user about what they can and can't do with its contents. The GFDL tells the user they must put derivative works under the same license (copyleft), while the CC-BY says they don't. This is confusing. Can I use sections of LGW within an ARR (All-Rights-Reserved) work or not? Is this wiki copyleft, or it isn't? If it is copyleft, shouldn't the CC-BY-SA needs to be used to let the user know that? If it isn't copyleft, shouldn't the GFDL be dropped to make this clear? --Strypey (talk) 05:49, 12 January 2014 (CET)

::: It is very simple: If you you contribute to LibreGameWiki, you must license your work as CC-BY und GFDL. If you want to use content from LGW, you can pick the license you want to comply with. Please keep in mind that copyleft is only one of the difference between the licenses (please read the full text of both licenses to learn about other demands required by each of the licenses). --Gamfan (talk) 13:21, 12 January 2014 (CET)

:::: I intended to answer, but I got an edit conflict earlier. Anyway, some points:
::::* Being CC-BY licensed, this wiki's text can be contributed to Wikipedia if properly attributed: see CC FAQ and Wikipedia copyright FAQ.
::::*Wikipedia is not entirely dual-licensed: all of it is available under CC-BY-SA (except the fairly used stuff). On the other hand, the GFDL does not necessarily apply to text added after the project voted to use the CC license - you have to check this yourself if you'd like to use a Wikipedia article under the GFDL.

:::::: I'm pretty sure this is incorrect. When I edit Wikipedia it says "By clicking the "Save page" button, you agree to the Terms of Use and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 3.0 License *and* the GFDL..." (emphasis mine) --Strypey (talk) 10:50, 6 November 2015 (CET)

::::*As I recall, Debian only considers the GFDL non-free if there are invariant sections involved, see this vote. What is the problematic "transparency" term?
::::*The lack of a "or later" clause precludes our stuff from being used in the Free Software Directory. This may be a pity, because their goal is rather similar to ours. -- StevenDH (talk) 19:40, 12 January 2014 (CET)

:::::: Is the copyright in LGW content owned by the original author(s) or the project? If there was a consensus among all LGW copyright holders, the content could be relicensed under any license they choose. This would not revoke previous licenses on the same content, but would apply to all existing content, and only the new license would apply to new content. As I said initially, I can't see the benefit of using CC-BY for a collaborative reference wiki, and I think CC-BY-SA would be a better choice, as it means any improvements made in derivative works are available to be backported into LGW. --Strypey (talk) 10:50, 6 November 2015 (CET)
Hi, I do not know if the Community portal is the right place to report this type of problem. But I have not been able to find any better place.

When connecting to libregamewiki, some web-browsers (Mozilla based: firefox, iceweasel, icecat, seamonkey etc.) displays a warning page stating "This Connection is Untrusted". I have tested this on several computers with several browsers with both GNU/Linux and Windows OS, so it seems to be a problem that applies to everyone that uses these browsers.
Copying from Wikipedia
I note the warning at the bottom of edit pages not to copy from Wikipedia. I'm assuming this is out of date, as Wikipedia is now dual-licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0? If so, it would be good to remove that warning, as there is a lot of useful material about libre games that could be imported to this wiki.

This is particularly important in view of the massive pruning of Wikipedia that appears to be going on, with many articles being deleted on the basis that their subject is not "notable" enough to have a page in an Encyclopedia. This problem has disturbed Wikipedians enough that one (or a group?) has set up the SpeedyDeletion wiki to rescue pages before they are removed, in case their contents are still of interest to other wikis like this one.

:Hi there. I'm afraid the warning has to remain as this wiki is cc-by or gfdl and wikipedia is cc-by-sa. I try to help someone to edit his game's page. Yesterday, his IP was block cause abuse (probably tried to much html lines to make edit as he wanted). I looked all around your site to understand how to post an image through your site, and choose categories for his game, but found nothing about it. Is there somewhere an option to make it directly?
-How upload an image on your site (I think it will be ok to post it on the edit of the game's page, but would be appreciated to have the exact html line to be sure)
-How to add categories for a game.

On the "Recent changes" page, I see there's a lot of spam-fighting going on. It's good that LGW is being valiantly defended against the incessant spam bots, but I think the Abuse filter is sometimes a little quick to block well meaning users. The anonymous user recently working on the Liberated Pixel Cup page, and two weeks ago even the registered user Lanadapter got on the block list, presumably because they made a series of small edits in a short time. Would it be possible to differentiate a bit better between real editors and spammer, so that we don't turn down actual contributors (while keeping the spam out, of course)? -- StevenDH (talk) 15:24, 14 February 2017 (CET)
I think contributions by 95.70.132.254 should be mass reverted (and maybe this IP blocked). —2A01:CB11:421:F500:6E5E:2123:F965:8FC4 02:02, 26 November 2018 (CET)

: That IP was banned and all vandalism reverted --Hendrik Brummermann (talk) 22:14, 27 November 2018 (CET)

:: It's being vadalized every day from a different IP. They completely mess up the game tables. Can we do something about it? Better filters/bots? Disallow anonymous edits? Drummyfish (talk) 21:56, 23 December 2018 (CET)

Version updates from Wikidata?
New versions come all the time and it's tedious to update manually. Wikidata might have many of the items here and could get updated more often than LGW. Their data is in the public domain. Can somebody figure out how to incorporate it automagically? That would help keeping up to date also the recent releases box on the front page of LGW. --GNUbie (talk) 11:51, 22 January 2019 (CET)
: Wikidata:Notability requires that a page exists in one of its sister projects and Wikipedia:Notability (video games) is much stricter than what can be included in Libregamewiki. I doubt that using Wikidata would help much with keeping the list of new releases up-to-date. --Blokusguy (talk) 13:18, 10 February 2019 (CET)

Duplicated reference names break genre pages
Problem: I.e. :Category:Pages with reference errors (yes red link but still go ahead and click!). Open one of those list articles and scroll down to the bottom of the page where the references are to see the errors with the similarly named references between the included articles.

Solutions?: Perhaps the references could be somehow removed from the genre list articles? Of course the silly solution would be to manually edit the articles to change ref names... but that's a lot of work and not exactly future proof. --GNUbie (talk) 14:19, 25 January 2019 (CET)

In the beginning of the game, the player gets to choose what race the in-game character should have. Each race has different abilities and skills (such as Strength, Health, Magic and Stealth). As the player completes missions and defeat enemies, the character will receive experience-points and level up. Leveling up will allow the player to improve skills and abilities of the character.
By completing missions and looting dead enemies, the player will collect gold. This can be used to purchase new equipment, weapons and armour at different traders.

Gameplay
The game can support up to 16 players.
Development
Funding
The teeworlds team ask for donation to fund development and maintain network services. The team then reward donors with a donor badge in the forum, if it matches one of the email address of an account in the forum. The donation link is featured prominately on their website next to the Teeworlds header.

Neither this software nor any of its individual components, in original or modified versions, may be sold by itself.”. 0.5.0 and versions 0.5.1 do not have that condition.

Older versions of Pentobi also supported Windows, but Windows support has been dropped after version 12.0.

Older versions of Pentobi also supported Windows, but Windows support has been dropped after version 12.0.

According to one of the top Blokus players, Pentobi is the strongest Blokus-playing program.
