Omega is a Universe Simulator accessible remotely by registered users over the JSON-RPC protocol.

This allows the most users and developers to access the universe and control ships / stations / other entities in via many mechanisms.

You can see an instance running on the Omegaverse at omegaverse.info

Gameplay
Omega aims to serve many purposes but one primary use case is to be a fun / challenging / expansive Space RTS that can scale indefinitely as nodes connect to each other on the Omegaverse network.

Omega provides many base RTS functionality including unit attributes and interactions, movement, combat, resource extraction, and more. The server can be expanded in any number of fashions and implements a full role based access control system allowing Omegaverse administrators to granularly enable/disable users from accessing certain entities and performing particular operations.

Clients can be written in any language and can be instrumented to perform any custom operations according to the algorithms the player / end user desires. Omega serves JSON-RPC requests over many protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, Websockets, AMQP, and more, allowing clients to connect in the manner which works for them.

The Omega Project also ships with many various command line clients and examples as well as an interactive WebGL-based frontend that renders the running universe in real time right from the web browser.
Globulation 2 is a RTS game with an unusual gameplay design. The source and media are licensed under the GPL. The latest release of the game is 0.9.4.1 released on March 25th, 2009. It is programmed in C++. It uses the SDL and Boost libraries.
Gameplay
Players can play multiplayer games via LAN or via the Internet through the Ysagoon Online Gaming service. In single-player mode, they can play against different AIs or in campaign mode.

In Globulation 2, unlike other games in its genre, players cannot control units directly. Influencing the unit's behaviour is done by creating zones and flags on the map, which affect a certain type and amount of units, ordering them to harvest resources, scout a region, avoid places or search for enemies to attack.
Units
*Warriors their main function is to attack the enemy and defend the buildings and workers. They fight in close combat. They can gain experience in combat, thus leveling makes them more powerful and destructive. Training facilities can enhance the fighting ability of these warriors significantly.
*Workers gather food and the resources needed for building. They build, repair, and upgrade buildings and automatically work on constructing, repairing, or harvesting resources.
*Explorers are flying units that automatically scout the map in a circular movement. These flying creatures can only be attacked by enemy explorers and towers. They can be upgraded to bomb units. Since they cannot be attacked by globs, they are especially devastating when there are no other enemy scouts and towers in the area.

Buildings
Globulation 2 features some buildings that give units special abilities like swimming, the ability to build higher-level buildings, or faster movement, and upgraded versions of those buildings improve those abilities.

For each building site, the number of workers working on the construction can be set. Units will automatically build. Not all of the buildings need to be maintained by workers after the building is completed. For repair, the player has to manually order the repair to be done on the building.

*Inns are perhaps the most important building in the game. They provide food storage for your globs, which is necessary for them to go to work, fight, and do other things. In some cases, they can be used to convert enemy globs to your side. Upgraded versions provide increased capacity to store food and feed your globs.
*Towers are defence structures that are used to attack aggressors. They are useful for protecting territory and making it difficult for globs to conquer that land. However, they require units to supply them with ammunition.
*Walls are useful for slowing down and keeping out enemy globs. They also have the highest defence strength in the game. Since they cannot be upgraded, they become less useful as the games progress to later stages.
*Swimming pools teaches globs how to swim. Upgraded versions can train more globs and as well train them to be faster.
*Racetracks increases the globs' land speed. This is especially useful in combat, as warriors take less time to get there.
*Markets are used for trading resources with other glob colonies.
*Barracks increase a warrior's combat ability dramatically. The more upgraded the barracks is, the more globs the player can train and the more the player gains from training them.
*Swarm is the only unit production building in the entire game. It produces all three types of units. Unlike other buildings, it can repair itself over time. Wheat is required for the production of unit.
*Schools teach the player's globs how to upgrade buildings. The final upgrade can teach scouts how to bomb units.
*Hospitals heal the player's globs and the scouts' health. The upgraded version has a greater capacity to heal more units.

Resources
Like other games, Globulation 2 requires resources. However, unlike other games, the resources are either unlimited or renewable. Unmanaged growths can enclose colonies. However, there are tools for managing them such as the destroy resource flag. You can also permanently deplete some resource by over harvesting it. Wheat and wood are resources that can be depleted.
*Wheat is the most important resource in the entire game. They are used for the production of units, buildings and food for the globs as well.
*Wood is the primary construction material of the game.
*Stone is used to build walls, supply towers, and is a construction material for some buildings.

AIs
The Globulation 2 team has developed several different AIs, each suiting different needs and with their own strength and weakness.
*AINicowars is the most difficult AI in the entire game, designed to close the gap between the players and Glob2 AIs.
*AIWarrush is a war AI, designed to continuously send warriors to the enemies. Often, they built hospitals and other facilities to shorten the time needed to get back into combat.
*AINone is an AI that does nothing. It is used primary for campaigns.
*Reach to Infinity is an AI designed for economic expansion. It doesn't fight but it can convert globs to its team very efficiently.
*AICastor is a much more difficult AI than AINumbi.

Development
Although most of the contribution to Globulation 2 is done by volunteers, a developer by the pseudonym genixpro is paid to work on the Globulation project fulltime. There are also other bounties that the development community is willing to pay for.
History
*See Globulation 2 release history for more information.

Receptions
*About.com released a review of Globulation 2, pointing out its innovative features.
Gameplay
In Snowballz, players can directly control combat units, but not the workers. These warrior penguins throw snowballs, as suggested by the game's title Snowballz. When a penguin dies, it is frozen in an ice cube. When a penguin gets cold enough, it will try to save itself by running back to the base igloo. At a certain time later, it will emerge with full health.

Workers automatically gather resources and perform other tasks such as building structures that support your clan.

History
Craft was an early X11 game and one of the earliest real time strategy games for Linux as well one of the earliest free software ones.

It was mentioned in Linux Journal and by CNN and the game's popularity can be shown by the fact that it was submitted to the Linux Game Tome by the site's original creator Tessa Lau on September 1, 1998 as part of her documenting games from SunSITE's Linux games directories. The game currently has an average rating of four stars out of five on the site.

As the game died after the last release in 1997, and it no longer has a modern website, it is difficult to find for download (though you can find some links for downloading at the Linux Game Tome and through search engines). The website featured, as a joke, images from the comic strip Hägar the Horrible and is only now accessible through the Internet Archive (see links).

As of June 10, 2009, Debian still had version 3.5 in its Etch (then oldstable) repositories, for these platforms: alpha amd64 arm i386 ia64 mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc; hppa; m68k.

For RPM based systems there are both source and regular RPMs for Suse circulating the Internet. Some of these have been tested on other RPM-based distributions such as Fedora.

Plot
The player is a Viking who angers the leader of his settlement after a drinking binge. After "several unpleasantries" the player and his two fellow drinking buddies are forced to exit the village. During their exile they establish a new tribe. Noting that the player is "obviously even too lazy to work" his fellows elect him to be the King. Thereafter only time will tell whether or not he is a great leader and empire builder or "just another one of life's losers." There are also "a few more of your sort" around trying to build up their own nations competing with them as well. With these challenges, the player is left to lead his citizens and nation.

Gameplay
In Craft you must lead your outcast vikings from starvation into a thriving economy. You must feed your army, research technologies, conquer islands, and trade with far-away countries. You win when you are the sole kingdom on the map. To move across the map you must select where you want to view on the mini-map with the mouse and it lacks the keyboard movement usually available in real time strategy games but also contains a version of mouse scrolling that involves moving the cursor to a given edge of the map and clicking down. You can not order units to move using the mini-map like in some games. The game features network multiplayer as well as combat and trade with computer opponents.

The game begins by default on your new island, probably meant to represent one of the many small Scandinavian islands. The size and amount of resources on your island and the shape of the map is randomly generated each time. Selecting against the island option at the beginning has you play on a larger continent instead, which limits naval play. The island mode is more similar to Warcraft II while turned off it is more like the original Warcraft. You start with a knight, ostensibly representing the player, and two workers who presumably represent his two drinking buddies. From there one of the workers must build a town hall to start gathering resources and construction. There are three resources: gold, food and lumber. Food can be acquired by building farms and is needed to prevent the starvation of units, lumber from cutting down tress and is needed for building, and gold is acquired from mining.

Various new units can be trained such as more workers, pawns, more knights, scouts, scientists, merchants, catapults, and ships. There is a population limit of 70 units and you usually need new buildings to create them as well as to complete other economic and military tasks. These buildings include camps, mills, smiths, universities, forts, markets, docks, more town halls, and of course farms. Various buildings either have different requirements or recommendations about where or how to be built. There are also different trainable limitations for several military units.

The game has speed controls for both players and enemies, a feature not present in other contemporary proprietary strategy games such as Warcraft II or Age of Empires but which is available later titles such as Stronghold (cheats were available to speed up building and mining in some of those games). The game also features many other innovative at the time features such as hills and mounds affecting travel speed, starvation of units if lacking food, and the construction of moats, traps, mounds or walls. The historical, although comical, setting was also singular in a time when futuristic and fantasy real time strategy was popularized by Command & Conquer and Warcraft. This was before titles like Age of Empires or Rise of Nations made historical equally popular.

Sustained games are unlikely given the lack of a save or load function in the game and the game has no sound or music. Craft was considered relatively backward graphically for its era. The user interface and gameplay was also sometimes criticized as clunky and installation was considered difficult in in many of its forms.Builds can suffer from redraw problems if another window is loaded or if the player switches workspaces and the game can also seize up or lose mouse control. Piga Software said "[though] the game is not entirely stable but it is well worth a play or two" in its overiew of free or GNU/Linux-compatible real-time strategy games to play whilst waiting for advancements to Gambas Genie.
Creep Smash is a multiplayer tower defense game written in Java. It was developed by ten computer science students within a collegiate software project of the University of Applied Science in Stuttgart. The project requirement was to plan, design and implement a Java-based multiplayer version of Tower defense within 2.5 months. Each student had a specific role in the project such as project manager, developer, or tester.
After that, Patrick Schlesinger has started to continue the game development and provide a game server with a growing team of developers.
CreepSmash is licensed under the GPL. The latest version of the game is 0.6.0 beta released on August 7th, 2009.

Gameplay
CreepSmash is a game for 2-4 Players, who can play on one map. At the beginning of the game each player has 20 lives, 200 credits to start and 200 credits income per round (one round lasts 15 seconds). The income increases when the player sends creeps to the next player. If the creep walks through the whole map of the opponent, he/she loses a live. If there are more than two players, the creep walks to the next player’s map, otherwise the creep starts again at the opponent’s map.

It is likely a good idea to increase the income by sending creeps. To avoid the loss of the player's own lives it is also recommended to build towers on the own map. Of course the towers should be placed at a good point to reach as many creeps as possible.

There are six different kinds of towers and 16 kinds of creeps.

Game Modes
You can choose between three different game modes. The creeps move clockwise in every game mode.

* Normal - If you send a creep, your opponent after you get this creep.

* All vs. All - If you send a creep, every opponent get this creep.

* Random send - If you send a creep, a random opponent get this creep.

League
The Creep Smash League is an additional tournament script which manage the procedure of an 1vs1 tournament (ko-system) automatically. There is an registration necessary because of multiaccount protection.
More requirements are:
* account >50 points
* time to play during the league

1st round played with 50 members. Winner: Rambo196

2nd round played with 28 members. Winner: Resistant
* strongest: attacks the creep with most hit points in range.
* weakest: attacks the creep with less hit points in range.
