Gameplay
SuperTuxKart can be played in single player mode, including a single player campaign, split screen multiplayer on a single computer, or online multiplayer. In story mode the player unlocks new characters and races by points scored from achieving a given ranking in a race at a given difficulty setting. Completing all races unlocks the door to a boss race against Nolok.

The player chooses a Free Software mascot to play as. Each character has a mass, max speed, max acceleration, and nitro efficiiency stat.

There are several different types of race. In normal races the characters can collect powerups such as the parachute (which slows down enemy racers) or nitro boosts as well as there being random negative status effects from picking up banana peels. In a time trial there are no powerups. In a grand prix, the player must try to score the most points over several race tracks. Several more types of race exist.

Development
The first official version of the game was released in September 2006 as version 0.2.

They have a milestone page planning several versions ahead, and a forum on FreeGameDev.net to coordinate development effort.

The game switched to the Irrlicht graphics engine in version 0.7.

From version 0.8.2 the game uses a custom Antarctica engine, based on Irrlicht.

History
Charles Goodwin proposed the project for GoTM.

The GOTM project was started with the original developer of TuxKart on board, Steve Baker. However, the project goes nowhere Steve Bakers argue with other developers about the direction of the project. Eventually in December 2004, the project was considered dead by Ingo Ruhnke and the work forked off.

According to Steve Baker, the GoTM development team didn't know anything about 3D graphics at all and refused to take his advice. They broke the game, leaving it in an unrunnable and unplayable state.

Eventually the project was picked up by somebody else and was developed to the status it is today.
DDNet tries to keep compatibility with Teeworlds.

There is an active community where participants arrange tournaments or create and publish maps that can be downloaded by other players.

Gameplay
The game has several game modes, one of which is a multiplayer cooperative mode where players move through a map from the starting point to finish helping each other through different obstacles.

Some maps can be played with a single player. Some maps need the player to connect a "dummy" tee then and switch between the main tee and the dummy tee to complete the map.

Development
The game was developed by
* 2007-2014 Magnus Auvinen (Teeworlds)
* 2010-2011 Shereef Marzouk (DDRace)
Licar is a public domain 3D stunt racing game made completely from scratch (including the 3D rendering engine, 3D physics engine and all assets) and programmed in a relatively minimalist way. The game is written in C language without the use of any third party libraries (not even using floating point or standard library functions), thanks to which it achieves extreme portabity and efficiency: Licar runs with less than 1 MB of RAM and works even on embedded devices without a GPU. As much as it is a video game, it is also a technological manifesto of a sort, a demonstration of what can be achieved with very little.

In Licar it is possible to record replays of runs and race against ghost drivers of other players. The game's physics engine is completely deterministic, independent of FPS or platform it is running on.

The game was made by Drummyfish who previously made Anarch, a game made in similar spirit.

Anarch is a completely public domain, free software, suckless 90s-style anarcho-pacifist Doom-like libre FPS game. It was created by drummyfish, completely from scratch. The game's aim is to experiment with a different game development philosophy.

About
Anarch is made for entertainment but also as a manifesto of certain philosophies and ideas, including suckless programming, extreme portability, anti-copyright, selflessness and anarcho-pacifism.

The game is a "pseudo 3D" first person shooter, like Doom, and consists of 10 levels. The graphics uses a 256 color palette and is a little simpler than that of Doom, having e.g. no textures on floor and ceiling, no vertex maps and using just 32x32 pixel images. The engine uses software rendering and 2D raycasting for rendering. There are multiple enemy types, weapons and items to pick up. Music is 8-bit and procedurally generated, utilizing so called bytebeat.

Features
Some of the aspects of the game worth mentioning are:

* Extremely small size, being able to fit into 200 KB, including all assets.
* Very low hardware demands, being able to run on 40 MHz embedded CPUs.
* No library dependencies – The core of the game is written in pure C without any specified I/O, which is left for each platform's frontend to implement.
* Implementation simplicity – no build system is needed, only a single file needs to be compiled. The whole source code has ~12k lines of code.
* All assets are baked into the source code, so no filesystem is required for the game to run correctly.
* Extreme portability thanks to the above. Official ports exist for PC, terminal, web browser and embedded consoles like Pokitto and Gamebuino Meta.
* Made completely from scratch with only free software, including the engine, assets and media.
* Completely public domain status, made completely from scratch by a single developer and released under CC0 (with an additional waiver of patents and rights).
* A number of official mods already exist such as an HD mod, demo support (recording gameplay), a CRT screen simulation, a Freedoom asset swap, and an online cooperative mod.
1D Tetris or Tetris 1D is a version of Tetris made to be one dimensional, mostly as a math joke. The game exists in a number of versions, some of them free software. The game is also sometimes described as Tetris for those who think that regular Tetris is too hard.

Game play
The game takes place in a single line in which blocks, only varying by the amount making up the shape's height, fall down to the bottom of the line. Once they do, the player gains a higher score. In most versions pressing the down key will increase the block's rate of fall, or in the case of the iPod Linux version, the centerkey. There is no way to lose the game, and the only known way to win is to achieve the highest score - eg, leave the program running the longest. It seems to be assumed on an honour system that you actually "play" the game to the high score by observing it the whole time, rather than just leaving it running in the background.

The game is not actually one dimensional in the true mathematical sense, since its objects technically have both height and width. However, the only closer, and still technically inaccurate, simulation possible than the lines in this game is a line with less or just a single pixel. The objects do only move in one dimension and on only one axis.

It was most famously available from http://www.tetris1d.org/ (archived 2017-11-27), but there is no option to download the source code and as such it is not free software. There are multiple versions of the game however by different authors, such as a module for iPod Linux. This module has its code and the like available for download. Another version is for MIT's Scratch language, titled as Tetris 1D, and its source code and images are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license.

The game has become modestly popular simply for its novelty value. Putting "1D Tetris" into the Google search engine will offer you realted results up until page nine, page twelve on Google Images. The game also comes up early in a Google search for just "1D". 1D Tetris was included in the "Zero Gamer" Exhibition as a "game that tests the viewers' endurance in meditative inaction." The game is also mentioned on Wikipedia.

Gameplay
The game can support up to 16 players.
Development
Funding
The teeworlds team ask for donation to fund development and maintain network services. The team then reward donors with a donor badge in the forum, if it matches one of the email address of an account in the forum. The donation link is featured prominately on their website next to the Teeworlds header.

History
The project started off as a puzzle game as Teepop, a clone of the Japanese game puyo puyo. It was released on August 2nd, 2004.

Eventually, the game evolve into Teewars in 2007. The gameplay were similiar to Teeworld but have deathmatch as its only game mode.

Version 0.2.0 was the first public release for the Teeworld project.

They changed their name from Teewars to Teeworlds in version 0.4.0 for legal reason they can't divulge. This name change event happened on March 23th, 2008..

See Teeworlds release history for a details of all the known releases made by the team.

Receptions
TiGdb gave the game 3.9 out of 5 stars based on 12 ratings as of October 21st, 2009.

Licensing
Versions before 0.5.0 were distributed under a potentially non-free license which limited commercial distribution: “4. Neither this software nor any of its individual components, in original or modified versions, may be sold by itself.”. 0.5.0 and versions 0.5.1 do not have that condition.
