There is a mini competition that runs once a month, with less stringent rules, created to keep the contestants busy in the off season between the main competitions.
The rules were changed in an effort to provide a more relaxed feel to the competition. Some of the changes include: teams are allowed, existing art/sound/media/etc. are allowed, theme is not voted on, but chosen by the person running the competition.
It first ran in June of 2008 <ref>http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/category/minild/minild1/</ref>
'''Biniax''' is a [[:Category:Puzzle games|puzzle]] arcade game by [[Jordan Tuzsuzov]]. The code is distributed under a modified [[ZLIB license]], and data under a [[Creative Commons Attribution]] license.

== Versions ==

There are a few versions:
* Biniax (Classic) — the original version
* Biniax Mobile — a Java version for cellphones
* Biniax-2 — a refurbished Biniax, supporting multiplayer.

==Gameplay==
The player controls an element of some color. A mass of pairs of elements is coming from above.

The player’s element can collide with a pair which contains an element of the same color. That causes the two elements of the same color to disappear, and the player’s element is replaced with the other element from the pair. That’s called “taking the pair”.

In the mass of pairs, there are empty spaces and places that cannot be gone through.

Sometimes, a whole column can be cleared. Then it can be done quickly using the Space key.

The game ends when the mass or another player’s element crushes the player’s element against the bottom.
'''Matthew Roe''', also known as '''RB[0]''', '''RB0''' and '''RoeBros''', began modding for [[Battle for Wesnoth]] in 2004, and started programming in Python in 2005. He co-founded and heads the game development team [[HoleInTheHeadStudios]], which competes in the bi-annual [[PyWeek]] programming competition.

==Games==
Roe is a hobbyist developer, but has created numerous small open-source games.
==Trivia==
While Roe's ''official'' nickname is RB[0], due to technical limitations, many environments do not allow this user-name.

He uses RoeBros on sites where there is a minimum number of characters - like gmail, RB0 for sites that don't allow brackets but have no size limitations - like IPB forum boards, and he uses RB[0] for everything else.
:::Ah, ok, I meant the spelling, I was trying to figure out what you meant by pronunciation, doh! :) It is actually undefined, I often just say "oh" when I'm talking about zero, so sometimes people call me "Robo" but it doesn't really matter, however you pronounce zero is what you say :) [[User:RB0|RB0]] 22:31, 27 November 2007 (CET)

'''PyWeek''' is a bi-annual game programming challenge using [http://www.python.org/ Python]. The contestants often use the game library for Python, [[Pygame]],OpenGL bindings [http://www.pyopengl.org/ PyOpenGL] and the [[Pyglet]] game and multimedia library. In total 6 PyWeek contests are completed. The sixth contest was finished on Sunday 6th April, and the judging on the 18th.

==Contests==
On pyweek.org, each contest has three stages:
*First, week-long vote on themes. There are always five possible choices that are chosen by a person not participating in the contest.
*Second, the actual competition that lasts for a week.
*Finally, 2 weeks of voting are allowed for all users who submitted a game or were part of a team that submitted a game to play and rate the other finalists.
Entries are judged on ''Fun'' - how fun the game was and how likely you are to play this in the future,
''Innovation'' - how new, interesting, fitting the theme the game was,
and ''Production'' - how clean the game design was, how nice the graphics/sfx/music were, a bug-less the game is, how polished it is. Most users will give a game with a good readme file a heigher productions score as well.

Contests listed here are already completed.

*'''PyWeek 1: Power''': The overall winner of this contest was the game [[Dynamite]], the individual winner for this contest was the game [[Pawns: Power vs Responsibility]]. The challenge is also open to using appropriately-licensed art content not developed during the challenge.<ref>[http://media.pyweek.org/static/rules.html#existing-artwork-music-and-sound-effects-may-be-used pyweek rules page/existing content]</ref>
The fifth contest was finished on Sunday 9th September, and the judging on the 23rd. Each tournament generally has about

==Contests==

It took place in August 2005 on a different website, mechanicalcat.net. The contest ran August 27, 2005 through September 03, 2005.<ref>[http://www.mechanicalcat.net/tech/PyWeek/1 The site of the first ever PyWeek contest, hosted by Richard T. *'''PyWeek 3: The Disappearing Act''': The individual winner is [[Bouncy the Hungry Rabbit]] and the team winner is [[Typus Pocus]]. It ran from September 3, 2006 to September 10, 2006.<ref>[http://pyweek.org/3/ Pyweek 3 page]</ref><ref>[http://media.pyweek.org/static/pyweek3_ratings.html pyweek 3 results page]</ref>
*'''PyWeek 4: The only way is up''': Individual winner is [[Which way is up?]] and team winner is [[Barbie Seahorse Adventures]] by [[The Olde Battleaxe]]. *'''PyWeek 5: Twisted''': Individual winner is [[Disk Field]] and team winner is [[Wound Up!]]. The contest ran from September 02, 2007 through September 09, 2007.<ref>[http://pyweek.org/5/ Pyweek 5 page]</ref><ref>[http://media.pyweek.org/static/pyweek5_ratings.html pyweek 5 results page]</ref>
*'''Pyweek 6''': Announced for March 30 to April 6 2008.

===Pygame.draw===

The ''Pyweek'' site also hosted the Pygame.draw challenge in which programmers are required to write a game using only the python standard library and Pygame, fitting everything in single file that must be 64kbytes in size or less.
As of June 26, 2006, the submissions are ready for download.<ref>[http://media.pyweek.org/static/pygame.draw-0606.html pygame.draw page on pyweek.org]</ref>

==History==

PyWeek was devised by [[Richard T. Jones]] as a response to his experiences competing in (and running) [[Ludum Dare]] 48-hour challenges.<ref>[http://www.mechanicalcat.net/richard/log?year=2005&month=7 Richards blog]</ref>

The week-long format was devised to make the challenge more accessible. Similarly the ability to form a team or run as an individual also increases participation. The challenge is also open to using appropriately-licensed art content not developed during the challenge.<ref>[http://media.pyweek.org/static/rules.html#existing-artwork-music-and-sound-effects-may-be-used pyweek rules page/existing content]</ref>

The limitation to using Python was made to advocate Python and to increase the amount of tools and knowledge for Python game programmers.{{Reference required}}
:I saw the same thing, and was just about to edit when I had a question. Is this game even a shooter?!? Looking through it looks mainly like an RPG, so the Shooter thing is totally irrelevant as well, maybe we should just remove that whole category area, IMO. --[[User:RB0|RB0]] 18:34, 14 February 2008 (CET)

== Project Background ==

==== Past ====

First known as '''The Scattered Lands''', '''Radakan''' had its first recruitment post on march 4, 2006, and as such it is considered the starting date of the project.

On march 9, 2006 Tinus joined the team. A couple of months later, it became clear that the project lacked progressive work and leadership, and Tinus became the factual leader.

The date when Tariqwalji, a fellow programmer, joined august 16, 2006, is considered the restart of the project. Elaborate work on the design document started shortly afterwards.

In early 2007 it was decided that there should be an official leader for the project; Tinus.

==== Present ====

The current milestone is finishing a demo to submit to the [http://www.gamedev.net/community/contest/4e6/ 4E6 Contest].

== Design ==

* '''No leveling''' - Unlike many games, Radakan doesn't use the traditional leveling model,
* '''Involving quests''' - In Radakan there are repetitive quests or compulsory quests that are mandatory for your progress. Quests in Radakan will be a way to dig deeper into the main or side-plot, and also have an effect on the characters involved treat you from there on. Rewards will usually be involved, but not necessarily something material.
* '''No monsters, big plot''' - Well, there will be what some might call ''monsters'', but they will not be static enemies that are just there for kill&reward.
* '''Unique low-fantasy setting''' - As mentioned in the setting section below, our setting seperates itself from the typical, often Tolkien-inspired, settings with elves, orcs, dragons and the likes. Our setting is what you might even call low-fantasy, as magic is a rarity, and even though we might "bend the rules" sometimes if it's keeping the player from having fun, we won't go far beyond the familiar boundaries of 'realism' as long as it adds to the setting and doesn't punish the gameplay.

== Features ==

Radakan's special features will not be so much in special controls or fast-paced gameplay. Rather, it will be about unique interaction, and actual attachment to the characters in your surroundings.

=== Current aims ===

'''Technical (design- and programming wise)'''
* A way of jumping/climbing
* Advanced conversation system
* Highly interactive environment (actions with consequences)
* GUI for inventory
* Shop
* Moving NPCs
* First-person view

'''Content'''
* An engaging story.
* Involving quests.
* Multiple compositions and sound-effects.
* A complete 3D level.
* Multiple 3D statics and characters.

== Story and Plot ==

'''''Radakan''''' doesn't have a conventional storyline, but it will have several dynamic stories.

=== Current aims ===
* The player starts in a miningfield, populated by low-class houses where all the workers live.
* The player's main goal will be to find his way out of the workingplace without any voilent means, as that would not be possible.

'''Challenges the player will face'''
* Convincing his parents that 'change is possible'.
* Getting the right people on his side, and avoiding too much interaction with the wrong kind of people.
* Ultimately finding a way to get to the upper levels of the city.

== Setting ==

==== Unique Features ====

* '''No Elves and dwarves''' - The developers tried to completely avoid including cliché races such as dwarves and elves, instead focusing on completely unique fantasy races.
* '''Magic as a rarity''' - In the game universe, magic is a thing of oddity, the word hardly being spoken, and the power only used by the privileged or the lucky.
* '''Gods''' - Radakan was said to have been created by immortal beings, ''gods'', in which the different tribes and species believe and worship.

==== Temporary Setting ====
'''Please note:''' ''This temporary setting is due to a [http://www.gamedev.net/community/contest/4e6/ contest held by the GameDev.net community].''

The game takes place in the city of ''Moldan'', known better as the ''"City of Cavum Aetnae"'', as most of the city's inhabitants are placed right in the middle of the great crater. At the bottom-middle of it the workers are placed, working hard for a lousy living, surpressed by the corrupted government and the higher class citizens, living secluded from the rest.

''Our main objective for this contest was to include four pre-selected elements that we should find a way to implement in our game. We used these four elements as follows:''

* '''Crystals''' - Crystals could very well be called the driving-force behind the plot of the game. The crystals exhumed from deep inside the mines are the soul reason why the higher society are driving the lower classes with such a cold iron hand. They are rumored to hold magical powers and are highly saught for.
* '''Donkeys''' - Donkeys are the most important workers of the mines, pulling heavy loads and keeping odd under-ground machineries going.
* '''Explosions''' - It's quite simple: Sometimes explosives have to be put in use in order to break up the hard rock walls. If we get the time, we might also include explosives as a tool for the player to use in the game, allowing for instance to blow up a secret entrance.
* '''Accountants''' - The profession of an accountant is a highly respected one by the higher classes, yet despised by the middle and lower class, as they know he most likely makes his earnings making dirty money flowing around in the corrupted government look a bit more clean.

== Developers ==
The overview of our members is best viewed from [http://radakan.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:About_us our own wiki], as it is frequently updated with statuschanges, new additions to the team, and sadly, departures.
Radakan's special features will not be so much in special controls or fast-paced gameplay. Rather, it will be about unique interaction, and actual attachment to the characters in your surroundings.

=== Current aims ===

'''Technical (design- and programming wise)'''
* A way of jumping/climbing
* Advanced conversation system
* Highly interactive environment (actions with consequences)
* GUI for inventory
* Shop
* Moving NPCs
* First-person view

'''Content'''
* An engaging story.
* Involving quests.
* Multiple compositions and sound-effects.
* A complete 3D level.
* Multiple 3D statics and characters.

== Story and Plot ==

'''''Radakan''''' doesn't have a conventional storyline, but it will have several dynamic stories.

=== Current aims ===

== Setting ==

==== Unique Features ====

==== Temporary Setting ====

The overview of our members is best viewed from [http://radakan.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:About_us our own wiki], as it is frequently updated with statuschanges, new additions to the team, and sadly, departures.
It features many improvements over the original Quake engine, such as client-side [[QuakeC]], limited support for the Quake 3 material shader system, decals, support for Quake 3 file formats, etc, while still remaining fully compatible to the original Quake assets and its QuakeC code. :::Yeah, it's not that bad, but things like "the plan atm is to..." are rather useless, because they are not good to maintain and are too specific and fast-changing, so if a gameteammember creates an article it's always good to strip it down.
== Design ==

* '''No Elves and dwarves''' - The developers tried to completely avoid including cliché races such as dwarves and elves, instead focusing on completely unique fantasy races.

'''Kiba''' is the founder of the [[Main_Page|libregamewiki]].

Kiba has a history with editing wiki and contributing Free content. He edited wikipedia, comixpedia, and now this. He is also an aspiring game programmer. He tried to create a few Free games but they mostly end up as partially complete or half baked.

'''Current Status:'''
Kiba's goal is to displace Qubodup in term of edits. Kiba believe that as an operator of this wiki, his work should constitute the majority of edits.

On the other hand, Kiba has difficulty in completing game projects on time...

'''Quotes:'''

''"Pingus is a puzzle game that involves penguins."''
==Philosophically speaking...==
Kiba is in the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, imagination and higher plain of consciousness. He wishes to transcend his humanity.

Kiba is a tranhumanist who generally dislike excuses for being stupid, flawed as we are. He also believes that humanity is flawed because million years of evolution only make us "good enough" for the purpose of passing on the genes to the next generation. Kiba view "passing on the genes" as meaningless. He hates violence, deceptive behaviors, bickering among politicians, and other things.

He believes the pursuit of imagination and other related fields such as arts, science as the only meaningful activity(as well educating the next generation so the older generation can pass on the pursuit) that humanity can do to make up for their flaws. He also believe that the supergoal of humanity should be to become a successor or create a successor to humanity.

He classified himself as a libertarian, favoring neither political party in power in the US.

Take your seats please. Ask questions at [[Libregamewiki:Questions about editing]].

You can easily find info on editing by searching for "Mediawiki" and keywords on search engines.

==About:Categories==
*'''How to use categories:''' Write <nowiki>[[Category:CATEGORY NAME]]</nowiki> at the end (for better overview) of the page.
*'''Use and make categories:''' Categories are very handy for sorting articles, as the category pages have not to be maintained (in contrast to lists.) Use categories and create new ones.
*'''Put categories in categories:''' <nowiki>[[Category:Real-time strategy games]] is a sub-category of [[Category:Games]]. Many categories can be sorted hierarchically, so exploit this feature.

==About:Deletion==
If you want an article deleted, use [[Template:Delete]] to flag the article, and give your reason.

==About:External links==
*'''Use lists:''' When listing external links, don't forget the <nowiki>'*'</nowiki> before each link (or else the link will be text and not a list element.)
*'''Be clear and explicit:''' When creating an external link to, for example the homepage of a game, don't just write the game's name, wirte that it's the games homepage.

==About:Images==
*'''Describe:''' Write explicitly what this image is. Use links if possible.
*'''License:''' Always tell the license of the image.

==About:Licenses==
*'''Find out the license:''' This wiki is specialized on free/libre games, thus make sure that the game's source and content is licensed properly. Read more on the [[Libregamewiki:Article_policy|Article policy page]].
*'''Prove that the license is correct:''' Create a reference to a page or a text file in which the license is named. If no online resources are available, describe in the reference where to find the license statement (e.g. "in the license.txt file of any game archive.") Read more about references at [[#About:References]].

==About:References==
*'''How to use references:''' Put "<nowiki><ref>Here goes the reference</ref></nowiki>" at the place where you want to have a reference to. Write the reference between "<nowiki><ref></nowiki>" and "<nowiki></ref></nowiki>". At the end of the page, create a section called "References" and put "<nowiki><references/></nowiki>" in it.
*'''What to find references for:''' For most things. Especially anything related to persons. Statements also need references.
*'''Where to put References''' Always put the references at the end of the sentence, after the punctuation.
