Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (sometimes abbreviated DDA) is an open-world roguelike survival simulation game. It is primarily coded in C++ and Lua. The game is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike version 3.0, though it uses two fonts that are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 and GPL version 2 respectively. Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is an offshoot of the original Cataclysm by Zachary "Whales" Jenkins, which is no longer actively maintained. Dark Days Aheads most recent stable release is 0.C "Cooper," which appeared in March of 2015, though the game sees daily commits to its "experimental" builds.<br />
<br />
Set in a near-future New England in the wake of a zombie apocalypse, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead puts the player in the role of a lone survivor who must gather resources, train skills, craft useful items, and fight monsters across the blasted, ruinous wasteland of the former United States. This nightmare world is populated not only by the undead, but also by monsters of many other stripes. It will take careful management, foresight, and no small degree of luck to survive the dark days ahead.<br />
<br />
==Gameplay==<br />
<br />
At the beginning of the game, the player creates an overworld to play on by defining certain generation rules. After that, the player creates a character to control. There are many preset classes to choose from which will greatly influence your starting skills, equipment, location, and other factors. Additionally, the player can take a number of positive and/or negative traits and strengthen several useful skills that have various effects on playstyle. Next, the player generates their character and starts the game.<br />
<br />
The player navigates a large overworld while collecting items and fighting monsters. The player must constantly be on the lookout for food, water, shelter, and medical supplies to aid them in surviving the harsh conditions of the game. The player can gain experience in certain skills, either through practice or by reading specialized books. These skills may make the player better at combat, or give them new abilities, crafting talents, and more.<br />
<br />
There are many in-depth gameplay systems in Cataclysm, such as the ability to repair and drive cars, cybernetically enhance your own body, mutate yourself, and interact with NPCs. Also, there are countless different monsters to fight, ranging from typical movie zombies to demons, cyborgs, cyclopean horrors, and more.<br />
<br />
==History==<br />
<br />
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is a fork of Cataclysm, a zombie roguelike which ceased development when its original creator, Whales, moved on to other projects. When the first Cataclysm was abandoned, a small but dedicated portion of its playerbase continued to create mods and additional features for the game, thinking they would never be implemented in the main branch. However, at some point a web developer involved in the community set up a dedicated site for the game, and some other players jumped on the chance to fork the original game and resume active development, adding the subtitle "Dark Days Ahead." More recently, the community has moved to a discourse site.<br />
<br />
In June of 2013, a successful Kickstarter campaign was launched by the developers. Since then, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead has seen tremendous community growth and maintains a very active development schedule.<br />
<br />
==Development==<br />
<br />

Trackballs is a marble game in three-dimensional space, inspired by “Marble Madness”. It is released under the GPL, and was developed by Mathias Broxvall until a long hiatus from 2007 to 2017 after which a new maintainer picked up the project. The latest version before the hiatus is 1.1.4, released on 2007-05-25; now version 1.2.4 is available. It is written in the C++ and Scheme programming language using the SDL library. Support for OpenGL standard 3.3 is required.<br />
<br />
In the game, the player controls a marble (not the field itself) over a 3D labyrinth, avoiding moving spikes,<br />
deadly force fields, enemy balls, and marble-shattering falls, all while seeking the goal at the end of the level.<br />

1D Tetris or Tetris 1D is a version of Tetris made to be one dimensional, mostly as a math joke. The game exists in a number of versions, some of them free software. The game is also sometimes described as Tetris for those who think that regular Tetris is too hard.<br />
<br />
== Game play ==<br />
<br />
The game is a takes place in a single line in which blocks, only varying by the amount making up the shape's height, fall down to the bottom of the line. Once they do, the player gains a higher score. In most versions pressing the down key will increase the block's rate of fall, or in the case of the iPod Linux version, the centerkey. There is no way to lose the game, and the only known way to win is to achieve the highest score - eg, leave the program running the longest. It seems to be assumed on an honour system that you actually "play" the game to the high score by observing it the whole time, rather than just leaving it running in the background.<br />
<br />
The game is not actually one dimensional in the true mathematical sense, since its objects technically have both height and width. However, the only closer, and still technically inaccurate, simulation possible than the lines in this game is a line with less or just a single pixel. The objects do only move in one dimension and on only one axis.<br />
<br />
It is most famously available from http://www.tetris1d.org/, but there is no option to download the source code and as such it is not free software. There are multiple versions of the game however by different authors, such as a module for iPod Linux. This module has its code and the like available for download. Another version is for MIT's Scratch language, titled as Tetris 1D, and its source code and images are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license.<br />
<br />
The game has become modestly popular simply for its novelty value. Putting "1D Tetris" into the Google serach engine will offer you realted results up until page nine, page twelve on Google Images. The game also comes up early in a Google search for just "1D". 1D Tetris was included in the "Zero Gamer" Exhibition as a "game that tests the viewers' endurance in meditative inaction." The game is also mentioned on Wikipedia.<br />

Secret Maryo Chronicles (SMC) is a 2D platform game with a style designed to be similar to classic side-scrolling games. It uses the platform independent library SDL and, since version 0.98, the OpenGL accelerated Graphics Renderer. The game is developed in C++ and is licensed under the GPLv3. 2009, the latest version of SMC is 1.9 released on August 17th, 2009.<br />
<br />
== Development history ==<br />
* The first beta (0.27) of what is now called Secret Maryo Chronicles was released in January 2003 under the name Super Mario Clone FX. This release featured characters, enemies and sounds ripped directly from Super Mario World, with a new game engine and original levels.<br />
* In version 0.4 (February 2003), an in-game level editor was added, making it possible to pause the game, edit the level, and then finish the level in its changed form.<br />
* In version 0.95, the name was changed to Secret Maryo Chronicles, and most of the sprites were replaced with original sprites of the same characters. Also many sounds were replaced. The removal of Nintendo assets was to avoid possible legal issues, as well as to make the game more unique, and therefore more marketable.<br />
* In version 0.98, many sprites were replaced with original characters, roughly based on Mario.<br />
* Version 1.0 was released in July 2007 and came with many new features including text boxes and level warps.<br />
Version 1.2 was released on October 18 2007.<br />
* In May 3<sup>rd</sup>, 2008, 1.5 was released.<br />
* September 27<sup>th</sup>, 2008 saw the release of 1.6.<br />
* Version 1.7 was released on December 25<sup>th</sup>, 2008.<br />
* Version 1.8 was released on April 8<sup>th</sup>, 2009.<br />
* Version 1.9 was released on 2009-08-17<br />
<br />
== Possible legal issues ==<br />
Although most of the media in the game has been replaced with allegedly original, at least its title is viewed by some as a probable trademark infringement. For instance, , the game is in the Fedora Games SIG's list of games which they will not package.<br />
<br />
== Gameplay ==<br />
<br />
=== Mechanics ===<br />
SMC is very much like the Super Mario platform games in almost every respect. The main character is Maryo. The goal is to get to the end of the level, while collecting as many points as possible. He can power up using mushrooms, fire plants, ice and ghost mushrooms and stars. Maryo can also store extra power-ups in a box at the top of the screen, similar to Super Mario World. Maryo faces many enemies based on enemies in Super Mario World, including Gumba, Turtle and Thromp. The current version also features a giant Turtle as a boss character, with more bosses planned for the future.<br />
<br />
=== Levels ===<br />
Currently, the game features four worlds, containing eleven, two, seven, and seven levels respectively. These are loosely tied through an over-world map. There are more worlds planned. Recent versions also include many fan created levels, including recreations of Nintendo.<br />
<br />
=== Music ===<br />
In the install package, there is no level music, only sounds to keep the file size down. There is an additional download which provides the music..<br />
<br />
=== Future ===<br />
Planned for future versions are water, a story and a flying powerupas well as new bosses, new enemies and an improved engine.<br />
<br />
Version 1.9 will include a new enemy type called spikeball.reference required<br />
It is planned to make a level packaging system due to their large size.reference required<br />
Also a new animation system is planned beside some smaller fixes and improvements.reference required<br />
<br />
===Level Editor===<br />
Secret Maryo Chronicles includes an in-game level editor for creating new levels or modifying old levels. <br />

<div>he Ransom model, also known as street performer protocol or fund and release, is a business model in which the producer holds back games from release until members of the public pledge enough money to reach the producer's specified fund raising target.<br />
<br />

The first known instance of proposal for this business model in relation to producing free games is the essay Bedroom Coder's Business Model. The article also advised that the developers shouldn't try to hoard and license technology, instead it advocates that developers let their “IP” proliferate into the public domain.<br />

Sixth Floor Labs is the first known company to try this business model but closed door after their first game. Bram Stolk is currently experimenting with the ransom business model with the game Howitzer Skirmish.<br />

Endgame: Singularity is a RTS game that simulates a true AI. It is written in the Python programming language using the pygame library by a programmer with the pseudonym evilmrhenry. It is licensed under the GPL. The latest version of the game is 0.30 on January 26th, 2009. It was originally written for the first PyWeek competition. This game does not require 3D hardware acceleration.<br />
<br />
==Gameplay==<br />
The player is an AI created by accident that must evade from being discovered by humans. It researches technologies, builds computing facilities, as well as works for money. New technologies allow the AI to work for more money, increase its CPU capacity so that it can do more jobs, or increase security so that it won't be discovered.<br />
<br />
Each of its computing facilities have a chance of being detected. Once detected, suspicions may rise for one of the 4 groups listed in the game, resulting in an larger chance of being detected by that group. These are the intelligence community, the scientific community, the news community and the general public. Suspicions of the player's existence however will wane with time.<br />
<br />
If the suspicions of any of these 4 groups reach 100%, the whole of humanity will search out and destroy the AI. Thus, the player loses the game.<br />
<br />
If you manage to research apotheosis, you win.<br />

== Additions ==<br />
<br />
After discovering this wiki and the Allacrost entry, I (Tyler Olsen, aka Roots) added a lot of additional information here. I tried to cite references where I could, but a lot of the information (particularly the project's history) comes from my memory, which is rather difficult to provide a link to ;). I was also thinking of providing a bulleted timeline of major events in addition to or in place of the text-heavy history section, but I was unsure if this would be appropriate. I was also considering adding a section for the game's story (since the story is a major focus for this particular game), perhaps along with artwork for a couple of protagonist characters. <br />

<br />
:All this sounds good (though text is always better than lists, but it still can be structured in lists.. You should write the things you remember down!! best in the allacrost wiki I guess, then one can link to it (also write it down just so ppl know, a shame to loose development history information...) =) --Qubodup 23:17, 5 January 2008 (CET)</div>95.70.128.158
