Freedroid RPG is an isometric RPG, it's code and content are licensed under the GPL. The game uses OpenGL hardware acceleration by default but can also use SDL graphics.

Gameplay
The gameplay is similar to other isometric games like FLARE where left clicking on a location will interact with it, either by movement, attacking, message, or dialog. Players can interact with a number of objects including fighting enemies, talking to NPCs, reading signs, opening chests, smashing barrels and boxes, and logging on to computer terminals. The game is progressed by completing a series of missions.

The player can acquire different items, weapons, armor and circuits from defeated enemies, chests, boxes and barrels. Valuable circuits is the currency in Freedroid RPG's post-apocalyptic world, they can be traded for other goods and services at different NPCs.

A tutorial is included in all of the newer releases.

Fighting
Generally there are four ways of fighting enemies: melee, ranged, programs, or hacking. Melee attacks require melee weapons (or no weapons) and ranged attacks require ranged weapons and ammo. Program attacks require getting in-game Source books, learning them, loading them, then right clicking to "run" the program. Finally Hacking requires loading the hacking program and right clicking on an enemy to start a mini-game (like Paradroid which the original Freedroid classic duplicated).

Sub-Games
In addition to the main game, and the hacking game, there are several sub-games for the player to experience. Including a parody nethack game, a concise thermonuclear war game, and several gambling games. These games are run though dialog so there are very few options for the player to take.

Story
The game starts with a mysterious message from Dvorak, First AI, after which the player is awoken from cryogenic storage. She/he takes the form of a human sized penguin, an alien from another planet. Freedroid RPG takes place in a not too distant future where a huge population of bots, most of which produced and controlled by a single company, have risen against their former masters, killing a large part of humanity and taking over control of the galaxy. The small town where the player is awoken hopes that, with her/his help, they can hold out against the bots, and who knows, maybe even win against them.

The player must struggle not only to survive in a cruel world ravaged by the depredations of a robotic apocalypse, but fight back and free the survivors from the tyranny of a world awash in closed source software and determine his own fate.

Characters
* Dr. Francis Spark, the scientist in charge of the cryogenic facility (Cryogenics Solutions: "Take the fast trip to the future with Cryogenic Solutions!") where the player is found.
* Sorenson, a programmer who has gone crazy after writing one-too-many lines of proprietary COBOL code.
* Ewald, a bartender with a penchant for gambling and nothing to serve but cold water.
* Spencer, leader of the Red Guard.
And many others, including humans, robots, and everything in-between.

Factions
* Selfish human, Tux. It is friendly to everyone and hostile towards bots.
* Civilians, humans who just want to be left alone.
* Crazy, people that were pissed off by Tux. They are civilians that are hostile to Tux.
* The Red Guard, an organization that seems to protect the remnants of humanity, but at what cost?
* Rebels, those who would oppose the Red Guard's methods (not yet implemented as of 0.16.1).
* MegaSys, a corporation that seems to have succeeded in achieving world domination by ironically killing their stockholders... and everyone else.
* Singularity, an AI which hates everyone but Tux and bots.
* Neutral does not attack anyone, neither is it being attacked
* Test as well does not attack anyone, neither is it being attacked

Development
The MBROLA text-to-speech-system was used to generate voices. Most of the core engine code is written in C with dialogs and similar actions written in Lua for ease of use.

In the 2012 FOSDEM Game Devroom, Arthur Huillet gave a presentation discussing a number of important design decisions of Freedroid RPG.

After the release of 0.16, development began on a second act of the game.
Lincity is a city building simulation game.
The latest stable version is Version 1.12.1, released on August 13, 2004. It is originally written by I J Peters and licensed under the GPL. It is written in the C programming language.

Gameplay
In Lincity you are a city designer, and have many objects/buildings to create your city out of, though most of the objects require you to research the correct technologies. You must provide jobs, food, and housing to your residents.
You can use renewable energy to build a sustainable economy, or build rockets to escape a polluted and starving planet.

LinCity-NG
The game was abandoned until Game of the Month developers from the Linux Game Tome created forked the Lincity codebase to create a new game called LinCity-NG, using the same engine, but 3D graphics.
Variations
There is a mini competition that runs once a month, with less stringent rules, created to keep the contestants busy in the off season between the main competitions.
The rules were changed in an effort to provide a more relaxed feel to the competition. Some of the changes include: teams are allowed, existing art/sound/media/etc. are allowed, theme is not voted on, but chosen by the person running the competition.
It first ran in June of 2008.

Concurrent with the main contest, Ludum Dare also runs a Game Jam with more relaxed rules. In particular, the total time is 72 hours, teams can compete and any libraries/frameworks/... are allowed.
FreeOrion is a turn-based strategy game of galactic conquest inspired by the Master of Orion games. As is typical for 4X games, players have to explore their surroundings, colonize new planets, manage their economies, research spectacular technologies, build up military might and conquer their neighbors, and ultimately, the entire galaxy. Features specific to FreeOrion are the diverse fantastical species and peculiar history of the game galaxy, the design of new ships with a multitude of hulls and ship parts available after research, and the possibility of technological victory after researching transcendence.
Transcend is an abstract 2D shooter game created by Jason Rohrer. The game's source is licensed mostly under the GPL, but with some public domain code as well. The latest version is 0.3 released on August 30, 2005. Rohrer was motivated to create the game out of frustration with the game industry's lack of creativity.

Its dynamic graphical engine can smoothly morph from one complex shape to another.

Gameplay
The player controls the player’s glyph, which is connected to the center of a grid, which marks the plane. The glyph can travel anywhere on the grid, taking Elements from the border of the grid, and bringing them into a collage in the center of it.

The enemies in the game are called anti-glyphs — a major one and several minor ones.

Since the player’s glyph’s shots become strong enough to destroy the minor anti-glyphs if any collage exists, and the major anti-glyph, if the collage is big enough, the anti-glyphs will try to stop the player from making a collage.

By hitting the player’s glyph, an anti-glyph’s projectile makes it drop any Element it is carrying and moves the player’s glyph to the center of the grid; when hitting an Element, it moves the element away from the center, thus potentially breaking the collage.

Music
A red, yellow and blue line — the music cursor — appears on one side of the collage and moves to the other side repeatedly throughout its existance, producing musical sounds defined by the Elements in the collage, and their position. When traversing an Element in the collage with its red part, the sound made is more on the right side, blue on the left, and yellow in the center.

Collage
The closer to the center of the plane the elements are gathered, and the more symmetrical the collage is, the stronger the player glyph’s projectiles are.

Major anti-glyph and levels
The minor anti-glyphs can be destroyed by a single projectile with any collage of one or more Element, but the major one needs more power.

When the major anti-glyph is destroyed, a Portal opens in its place, and the minor anti-glyphs die, thus allowing the user to experiment with the Elements and Music cursor, and eventually leave the level through the portal for the next one.

The levels differ in look and qualities of anti-glyphs.

Piga Software is a free software development group based on a ranch near Seba Beach, Alberta, Canada founded on August 12, 2004.

History
The group first started by trying to make free games for Windows in Visual Basic 6 but none of these games ever made it to completion. ZZT games were also being made to supplement the Visual Basic ones, though the free-ness of these would have been questionable; though they probably could run in the free MegaZeux. Rough unsupported source/level file releases for these old examples have been considered but are classified as a low priority.

From May 2005 to early 2007 they tried out several game projects in the popular game development tool Game Maker. Some of these games are planned to be packaged together as the Piga Windows Entertainment Pack. Similarly a raw files pack for the old Game Maker files have been considered, especially given some of the depth put into a few of their 2.5D game projects.

The group's first release was Donut Quest in 2006, a currently Windows-only free software arcade game set in the realm of the Brogo web comic. GNU/Linux support might one day be added with the G-Creator tool.

In 2007 they moved development to Fedora GNU/Linux and Gambas. They rebooted their old Game Maker project, Free Empires, into its modern form to develop an engine and then hopefully a series of free software historical real time strategy games based on the proprietary Age of Empires I and II. Two source releases for the project's engine, Gambas Genie, were released that year.

In 2008 they released a television-out front-end utility called PigaVision and a free software amusement program called Piga's Pumpkin Carving, a title similar to the popular GNU/Linux desktop game Potato Guy. The group also released several Gambas code examples, many pertaining to gaming.

In 2009 they released the adventure game Alexei: Part IX and the retro arcade game Windys, as well as first release for a more complete Gambas Genie demo game called Lamp Refugee and an updated version of Pumpkin Carving. The group is working on expanding Lamp Refugee among other projects.

On October 25, 2010 the Piga Software website and file hosting was moved over to icculus.org. This is the end of a long search starting in 2004 to find a host that provided reliable file hosting, and extensive and add-free web hosting.

The first new release was a third release for Pumpkin Carving. This was followed in November by Piga's Thanksgiving Dinner Hunt which is a mouse-based targeting game, in December by Piga's Santa Drop Down which is a timing game and in January 2011 with Piga's New Years Dodge 'Em which is persistence game. Some further games are planned to be developed and all released together as the Piga Holiday Pack.

On January 1, 2011 Piga also released a preview release featuring the first segment of what is to be Alexei: Part XIII, the sequel to Part IX. Work continues on Part XIII as well as more developments to Lamp Refugee, as well as other projects. On April 26, 2011 a new version of their wiki was launched on Tropical Wikis instead of Wiki-Site. This wiki was destroyed in late 2013 upon an attempted merging with Orain, but a new version was launched in March 1, 2014 rebuilt from partially archived data; Orain was taken out by a denial of service attack in September 2015, so the wiki was later relaunched on Miraheze on December 14, 2016. On May 8, 2011, though only fully on May 9, a second source release of Lamp Refugee was released, showcasing Gambas Genie 0.4.

Windys received a major bug fixing update on August 12, 2011, Thanksgiving Dinner Hunt was released again with updates on October 10 and was later followed by the latest Pumpkin Carving on October 31. On October 26 a technical demo was released for Gambas Genie showcasing a texture model utilizing texturing and tiling. On November 11 a new holiday game was released for Remembrance/Veteran's Day called Over the Top - featuring gameplay set in the trenches of the Western Front of the First World War. The group turned ten years old on August 12, 2014, commemrated with a write-up of their highlights and plans for the future.

Other information
The group has many other projects, some using other languages such as QBasic, but they are quiet about most of their work as they feel this helps them design cohesive games without ruining the plots and designs by building them out in the open. What information they have released however is best found on their forums and wiki. Free Empires has been their most noted project so far.

Piga Software is ran by Hamish Wilson and Graham L. Wilson, two twin brothers. Graham serves as the head engine coder or technical director for most projects while Hamish handles a lot of the game design (Graham developed the Windys engine while Hamish created the levels). Hamish does however occasionally code his own game engines as well, such as Alexei's Gambas Adventure Engine.

Their older brother Malcolm Wilson has done audio work for Alexei: Part IX, composed the soundtracks for Donut Quest and Windys, and created graphics for Donut Quest, among other work. This is done under the name Malcolm Wilson Multimedia, his wider free content multimedia creation project. Their eldest brother, Iain Wilson, has also done work for Donut Quest and has worked on Windows ports of Alexei and Gambas Genie through Visual Basic.Net.

They have also written extensively on the subject on free software and GNU/Linux gaming on various sites and attempt to popularize both - citing that porting a game to GNU/Linux is a good first step to eventually freeing it. Their account on the Libregamewiki is User:Piga.
Balder3D is a GPL zero-gravity first-person shooter game created by Bjørn Hansen.

Development
Inspired by the zero-gravity battle simulations described in Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, Bjørn Hansen started the development of Balder3D in 2002. He chose Crystal Space to be the game engine. As time passed by, he realized that he was aiming too high, and decided to create a two-dimensional game with equal concept instead, Balder2D. This led to a halt of Balder3D's development.
Card Stories is an online multiplayer HTML5 based game of cards that promotes creativity and imagination. It is developed by Farsides and released under the GNU Affero General Public License.

In 2013 it was awarded a Notable Entry Runner-Up award at the Mozilla Game On competition.

Technology
The game consists of a web service written in Python and a JavaScript client. Both the service and the client are written in a modular fashion allowing modules to add additional functionality without modifying the core code. A lot of existing functionality is implemented as pluggable modules. Example of a pluggable module is the integrated chat.

Most recent browsers are supported, including Internet Explorer 8 or newer.

Gameplay
Card Stories was inspired by games like Dixit and Apples to Apples. It focuses on creativity and imagination. You pick a word, a set of cards, and have the other players guess which card matches your word:

# Pick a card: Chose one of the game cards - this is the one the other players will try to guess.
# Write a story: Write a story for your card (think of it as illustration commission, but in reverse.)
# Other players pick a card, based on your story: Other players will have to pick a card as well to add to the mix, based on the story told by you (this is to confuse other players while they figure out which one is the real card later).
# Players try to find your card: The game will show everyone's cards, mixed up. All players will try to find out which of the cards is yours, and win if they do find it. You win if at least one players gets it wrong.

The game is best played with friends you know (as you can be more elaborate in guessing their choices), but you can also play with other people on the server, or even bots if nobody's around when you get there. Up to five players can play together.
