Stratagus is an isometric, real-time, strategy game engine. It is licensed under the GNU GPL.^[1]

Begun in 2004^[2] it is the continuation of the FreeCraft engine, which was shut down due to copyright and trademark issues with blizzard(the name was too close to StarCraft and WarCraft, the game engine was nearly identical, and the content was all from the WarCraft cds).^[3]

The engine was actively maintained until June of 2007, when progress was permanently halted, and merged with the Bos Wars project.^[4]
