Babel is a way to tell others what languages you speak or understand. See the documentation for the Babel MediaWiki extension for details.
Gender[edit]
The text in the templates can be tailored to your gender. While the Babel extension does support this feature, the MediaWiki version which is required for that has not been released yet. Until the release, it can be worked around manually (only needed if a template which uses that is used).
If you see that the Babel box on your userpage includes a red link to “Template:GENDER:<your login>”, click it and create a page with {{{n|}}}, where n, depending on your gender (the information is public), is one of the following:
- “1” for male
- “2” for female
- “3” for unspecified
