The MIT Licenses are permissive (non-copyleft) free software licenses that originated at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
The Open Source Initiative refers to one of the popular versions as “The MIT License”[1], while the Free Software Foundation calls that name confusing and refers to the license as the “Expat license”.[2]
The other license the FSF says is referred to as a “MIT License” is the so-called X11 license.[3]
