Minetest is a Minecraft-like sandbox engine and game. It has been in development since late 2010.[2]

Minetest is an engine that allows different games to run on it. By default it comes with a game called “Minetest Game”. The Minetest engine and game combination are commonly referred to as Minetest.[3]

The core engine is written in C++ and Lua and the game is written in Lua.[4]

Release history[edit]

The 0.3.x series was released in November 2011.[5] The 0.4.x series was released in July 2012[5] to address shortcomings in the previous series. These are the most important changes, summarized:[6]
