GDevelop is a game production tool and engine based on HTML5 and other web technologies, which allows it to be exported for play on a wide variety of hardware and software platforms as well as through a web browser. Established by Google engineer Florian Rival in 2008, the project's goal is to allow accessible game creation for people of no or limited programming knowledge, and has also found extensive use in education. It achieves this through an event driven system and pre-programmed object behaviours and physics accessible through a drag-and-drop visual workflow. More experienced users can also further extend their games via JavaScript. Prior to version 5 in January of 2018 the engine used was based on native C++ using SFML and wxWidgets (GDCpp), before migrating to its current more portable foundation (GDJS) first begun in 2013. Support for 3D graphics was added in May 2023.
