Search for the Red Herring is a search and destroy Real-time strategy game game created for Pyweek 3 by HoleInTheHeadStudios known as ThreeLittlePygs at the time[1]. The game art is licensed under the FAL[2], while the rest of the game is licensed under the GNU GPL v2.[3] It is written in the python programming language and use Pygame and PygLibs. Search for the Red Herring is a water based game where your goal is to destroy the Red Herring.

This Red Herring is surrounded by several decoy subs that will protect it.

You destroy the decoys and the Red Herring by launching crew members into the ocean to attack it, or firing off torpedoes.

The enemies return the favor by attacking with piranhas, sharks and their own torpedoes.

You can also go fishing, stock at your base, and gain more troops.

Search for the Red Herring was written for pyweek 3, and came 5th out of 16th on the team entries.[5]

The games title was probably a play of the novel and movie "The Hunt for Red October"
