| Soldat is a free game. This means that the source code is available to be studied, modified, and distributed. Most projects look for help with testing, documentation, graphics, etc., as well. | |
Soldat is a run and gun game influenced by Liero and Scorched Earth, combined with elements from Quake, Counter-Strike and Worms.[3] After a successful petition the games source code was released to the public by the author Michał Marcinkowski.[4] The newly released version 1.8 has been separated from the proprietary one on Steam due to fear of cheating. Before the Open Source release a large-scale refactoring took place so that the whole source can be compiled with FreePascal (instead of the proprietary Delphi 7) and runs across platforms.[5]
