Warzone 2100 is a real-time strategy game originally written in C as a closed source project by Pumpkin Studios. It was released (excluding the videos) under the GNU General Public License in late 2004 by Eidos Interactive.[2] Now development is in the hands of the Warzone 2100 Project (originally: "Warzone 2100 Resurrection Project"). A version was included on OpenSource Game Power volume 2.

Story[edit]

Warzone 2100 takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, where earth's satellites equipped with nuclear weapons were manipulated to attack the earth.

Gameplay[edit]

In Warzone 2100 new developed technology is used to design vehicles. The player chooses turret, body and propulsion which affect speed, health points, armor damage and shooting range of the unit.

In campaign mode, the map gradually got larger with each successful mission. Then, it becomes necessary to transport troops to other maps.

Controls[edit]

The game is primarily controlled using a pointing device making its graphics tablet-friendly.

Development[edit]

The first step made by the development team was the removal of all proprietary dependencies. Now the game uses the SDL, OpenGL, OpenAL and PhysicsFS.[3]

In 2008, the music video data of the original game has been released under the GPL.[4]

As of December 2014, developers are mostly working on the next major version of the game, which is to succeed the 3.x series. One of the major changes under the hood is to be the switch of the game's scripting language, used in the campaigns, from the application-specific Warzone Script to Javascript.[5]
