Hypnagonia A ‘spire-like’ deckbuilder card game where you take the part of a dreamer captured in some sort of surreal dreamscape in their recurring dreams, struggling to overcome their own issues to break out of the loop. It is developed by Db0 and released under the GNU Affero General Public License.
Technology[edit]
The game is written in Godot Engine 3 and is built upon the Card Game Framework Godot library. As a Godot game, it supports every OS natively and even runs on the browser.
Gameplay[edit]
Hypnagonia is inspired by extremely popular Slay the Spire video game and is using pretty much the same mechanics. It improves upon the formula by allowing the player to create the potential pool of cards they can encounter by mixing 4 archetypes together, therefore creating a massive amount of replayability for each run.
Instead of a dark fantasy setting, it is using a mix of surreal and dream/nightmarish approach. A lot of the usual fantasy concepts of "attack", "defend" etc have been replaced with thematic terms such as "interepret" and "stress". It has a heavy focus on storytelling,
Mechanically it is considered a deckbuilder game, in the theme of the boardgame Dominion. The objective is to improve your deck of cards so that you can challenge the more difficult encounters as the game progresses.
It is a single player game. The long-term objective is to see how high a difficulty one can achieve to win but eventually a storyline is planned.
