Open Surge (or: Open Surge Engine) is a game engine and game creation system for retro 2D games. It has a built-in level editor, ready-to-use items and free/libre media files.
It also comes bundled with a simple example game that developers can build on: Surge the Rabbit.
Open Surge uses a custom scripting language called “SurgeScript”. SurgeScript is an object-oriented dynamically-typed programming language based on state machines.[1]
