Open Surge is a free software platform game inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog. Up until version 0.1.4 from September 19th, 2010, it was known as OpenSonic before being given a distinct identity to avoid legal issues with Sega. They also emphasize that the underlying engine is usable for original games as well, with a custom scripting system known as SurgeScript.
