Spinny the Runner: Mechanical Menace is a free game. This means that the source code is available to be studied, modified, and distributed. Most projects look for help with testing, documentation, graphics, etc., as well.

"Spinny the Runner: Mechanical Menace" is a platform game with mechanics of the 16 bits era, modern graphics and many features such as: story mode, multiplayer, touch controls, split screen, 4 selectable characters, game editor, and network controls.

It uses Boxclip, a 2D platformer engine Originally created by Ricky Thomson (aka Jigoku)[3] with an emphasis on interactive map editing, built using the LÖVE2D framework.

Maps can be created with the custom built-in map editor. The user drops and places entities into the world to create a level.

Development[edit]

Both the game and the engine are enhanced and based on the last commit from Jigoku 17 August 2022.

New features, content and assets have been added to both the game and the engine, here a list of some of the most relevant:

Engine:

New entities: portals to bonus stages, cloth entities, bridges, doors, loops, new pickups, switches. New physics: Camera angle affects gravity (used on some bonus stages), fluid physics.

Game: - Thumbstick support: Control the player with the thumbstick - Replaced most assets - 4 players mode with split screen - Story mode with dialogues and new challenges - new Mechanics: Combos, enemies liberate animals (required to unlock portals in story mode). - Bonus stages - credits menu - extra music tracks - Reynold's algorithm for the bird animations - Zoom

Performance: - Performance mode (with auto set up based on detected FPS) - FPS Graph

Controls: - Touch controls - Radial menu - Top swipe menu (for touch controls)

Graphics features: - Normal maps and dynamic lighting - Day-night cycle algorithm - Bloom - HDR mode

The game is still in progress and new content and features may be added. This fork is specifically aimed at mobile and handhelds, compatibility and performance are among the highest priorities and considerations for this game.
