WarMUX (Wormux until November 21st, 2010)[1] is a Worms-like game that is licensed under the GPL, including its data.[2][3] The latest version of the game is 11.01 released on January 21st, 2011.[4] This game does not require 3D hardware acceleration.

The players control teams of cartoon-style free software mascots and use various weapons to kill each other. Teams are made up of mascots from the GNU, Linux, FreeBSD, KDE, GIMP, OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Thunderbird, Workrave, NuFW and SPIP projects.

Although strategy is required to win, Warmux is preeminently a "convivial mass murder" game in which, turn by turn, each member of each team attempts to produce the maximum amount of damage possible to his/her opponents.

The author of Wormux approached Team17, the authors of the orginal Worms series, asking for approval to develop a free software clone. Team17 gave no approval but didn't tell the Wormux project to stop.[5][reference required]

It uses the SDL library.[6]
