Free Cultural Works
Free Cultural Works is a term that refers to creative works where users have certain freedoms to use said work. The definition is maintained by freedomdefined.org. The Definition for Free Cultural Works closely resembles the Free Software Definition, but applies it to cultural works.
The license of a free cultural work is called Free Cultural License. Such a license must grant:
- The freedom to use and perform the work: […]
- The freedom to study the work and apply the information: […]
- The freedom to redistribute copies: […]
- The freedom to distribute derivative works: […]
All Free Cultural Licenses are also free media licenses.
The Definition for Free Cultural Works also adds additional practical conditions for Free Cultural Works which go beyond licensing: Source data must be available, a free format must be used, no technical or other restrictions exist.[2]
