LibreGameWiki
LibreGameWiki is a wiki of free games (i.e. games that are free software) and related topics started by Han Dao. We only want to include articles for games that adhere to free software principles. Other games are off-topic here.
We feature a large variety of genres. The biggest genres include action, arcade, board games, platformer, puzzle, RPG, FPS, RTS. And there are many more.
Apart from free games, we also cover adjacent topics:
- Free game engines
- Free libraries (for games)
- Free tools (for games)
- Developers of free games
- … and more
LibreGameWiki is an open wiki, which means it is open to be edited by volunteers around the world, and you can be one of them. See Get involved to learn more.
Licensing[edit]
The content of this wiki itself is released under free media licensing. The short version is that this allows everyone to copy, modify and share modified and unmodified versions of the wiki content under the conditions of that licensing. See Libregamewiki:Copyrights for details.
History[edit]
In July 2007, Han Dao wanted to create a Free/libre software development page (like SourceForge.net) with strong social networking features.[1] Instead of carrying out the plan, he started the Libregamewiki in August 2007.[2]
At first, the wiki was hosted by a free service, but few weeks after it's start, User:CyaNox became the host.
On September 10, 2007 a major redesign happened with the help of Iwan Gabovitch: The main theme's background image was changed, a logo was implemented and the main page got a new layout.[3]
Since October 2012, LibreGameWiki has a new host.
Since December 2018, LibreGameWiki has more than 1000 pages.
